APRIL 8, 2017 (I was in the grocery store this morning and made sure I checked the expiration date on some packaged items. This afternoon, when looking for a blog to post this one just popped up! Published in November of 2012. Blessings njp)


When we shop we look at the expiration dates on the food we buy. On the coupons we cut out. On the medicines we take. On the duration of a sale that is going on. We look for the words, “Use by_______” or Void after________.” We want to make sure we have not passed that expiration date.

Isn’t it wonderful that the spiritual labels on and in God’s Word (the Bible) have NO EXPIRATION DATE!

His perfect love for us does not spoil, lose its flavor, or change in any way! God’s words are perfect for us from the moment we are born until we join Him in Heaven!

In this world, we sometimes use the word forever lightly – without really thinking about what forever truly means – without end! The concordance in my Bible has 68 references to the word forever! The psalms are full of these verses!

Check out: Psalm 9:7 Psalm 37:28 Psalm 72:19 Psalm 86:12 Psalm 118:1 Psalm 126:1 and especially Psalm 136 where each of the 26 verses has the refrain, “His love endures forever”!

Thankful for His enduring love!

APRIL 2, 2017 (So sorry that I have been remiss in sharing these blogs but life has been hectic with moving and getting settled in a new city and a new home. I also am in a cast on my right foot – 2 fractures – but they are healing and the sun is shining and the birds are singing and the lilacs are blooming and sure hope the rain is over for a while. God seems to have chosen to end most of our 5 year drought in one season! That all being said, I came across this wonderful writing from March of 1995. Richard titled it “Did I Wrestle With An Angel?” – I believe referring to what kept him up in the middle of the night listening to what God was telling him. It is a powerful message. I woke up about 3 AM this morning and thoughts of Jesus entered my mind. Scriptures kept me awake and I kept repeating His sacred words over and over again. I then read a book I had started to read earlier on Saturday evening. It is a book on relying on the leading of the Holy Spirit by E.M.Bounds.

While reading, I thanked the Lord for all my blessings. I asked the Holy Spirit to take the reins of my life more sincerely than I had ever asked before. I asked that my words be anointed by the Holy Spirit. I want to be an effective person for the Lord and to help further the Kingdom of God.

I prayed that I would be Spirit led and Spirit fed on the Word of God. I asked the Lord to always be reminded that in all I do and say, He is as close to me as my elbows are to my arms. Lord, whenever I am ready to speak, let me pause first and then ask you, “What shall I say next? May I always speak in sincerity. Lord, give me a trained ear that I may close it to the world and it’s leadings and instead let me hear your ever beckoning Word.

You said I should ask of you but I usually make a mess of asking. With the Holy Spirit guiding me I will ask according to your will and that will not be denied.

Set me on fire for you, O Lord. Let me be a torch bearer for you! Lord, help me to be your helper.

In your Son Jesus name I ask these things. Thank you Lord.


Non-skid Souls

MARCH 5, 2017 (Slight snow fell as we headed up the hill to church this morning – it was only a little sleet at the house. But as I was carefully walking on the snow and trying not to slip I remembered this story and thought it fitting for today! Blessings, njp)


Maybe it was water on a tile floor, or a rain slicked sidewalk or winter’s icy steps – we all have felt that stomach turning sensation of skidding and slipping! Reaching out to anything we can grab onto so we don’t fall down. And as it is happening we wish we were wearing shoes that had non-skid soles!

What a difference those non-skid soles would make in the way we walk on a slippery surface!

It’s the same with our spiritual life – our walk with the Lord. Once we have put ourselves in His hands, when we trust in Him, we join the ranks of non-skid souls! We acquire traction and know where we are headed!
Psalm 66:9 “He has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping”.

Psalm 121:3 “He will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber”.

So if you are tired of the slipping and sliding that you are doing in your life, reach out for the steadfast hand that God is extending to you! Psalm 37: 23-24 “If the Lord delights in a man’s way, He makes his step firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.

FEBRUARY 12, 2017 (The last few weeks (seems like forever) God is choosing to end California’s 5 year drought in one winter! But everything is so green and beautiful and today the sun is shining and the soil looks so ready to plant! Here from April of 2006 is a great story. And I do apologize for not publishing for a few weeks as moving takes it’s toll on one as I get older! Blessings and comfort to all, njp)


How is your soil doing lately? I am referring to your spiritual soil. Look back on the past year and ask if you are spending more time with the Lord. Or if you are doing more for the Lord by visiting the sick, helping the poor, working at some capacity in your church fellowship. Has your spiritual soil become more fertile?

I personally find that when I am studying the word of God that He puts a burden on my soul about a certain need and I try and follow up on that situation. I find that sometimes all He wants of me is just to praise Him. And to thank Him for what He has done for me and my family.

I really enjoy praying for others and their situations. I can’t tell you how many prayers he has answered. When the Lord blessed me with the word ministry, I really saw it as a constant way of praising Him. A way of sharing my praise with others; believers and non-believers. And now, and after a few years in just a words ministry, He has blessed me with poems and short stories. It is amazing how he will give me a title and that is all I get. I just write it down and wait for when He will give me the rest of the story and then I can’t seem to write them all down fast enough!

And of course, I praise and thank Him for the words! My prayer is that my spiritual soil will always be ready for His words and teachings. And I pray for the direction He wants me to take with these words and stories. This is the most exciting time of my whole life – that I am able to do some small thing for the Lord. My dream is that my wife and I can be a ministry for our Lord that can lead others to Christ. My wife Nancy is my editor and so much of the word ministry has meaning because of her help.

If we are going to spend our time in heaven singing praises to our Lord we should start doing it now. And by the time he calls our name and takes us home, we will have many words to sing that will praise our Lord. That sounds so good to me!

JANUARY 23, 2017 (Today would have been Richard’s 85th birthday. This was written in 2010 . So thankful for these writings which he left for us to share. Very much the way he lived his life. Please try to keep the Carls Jr. tradition going and dine there today! But more important, please feed someone who is hungry! You never know when you may be feeding and angel! CLUE……..Christ Loves Us Everyday

Sometimes we just don’t have a clue how much God loves us. He loves us unconditionally – when we are good and when we are bad – we are his children. God’s love is amazing! Jesus actually came down from Heaven for us and He did it obediently! He became a man with a man’s nature. Philippians 2: 6-8 “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross.”

He knows what we are going through – no matter what the circumstances are – because He lived them here on earth. He tried to show man our sinful nature but we wouldn’t listen to Him. Instead, we beat Him and hung Him on the cross. We did not realize that this very act of amazing love would bring us salvation from sin.
Now, being children of God, we can be taught about God through His Word and the gift of faith and with the Holy Spirit overseeing the change in our lives. Christ abides in us and we in Him.

What a privilege it is for us that God came down to live in us – to guide us and protect us from the evil world we live in. And to top it all off He even built a new home for us! And we will live there forever and ever with Him. No more wars, no more sickness, no more poor and starving people. Just living in the grace of God and His unending love for us – truly amazing love! Revelation 21:4-5 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold I make all things new.”

I pray that the eyes of my understanding may be enlightened to behold the glory of God in Christ. I want to have my mind filled with spiritual and heavenly thoughts while doing earthly things as He wills it. Philippians 4:8 “Finally, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”

No matter how smart man thinks he is, it is foolishness to God. 1st Corinthians 1:25 “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.”

God will use the foolish things of the world to confuse the wise so that no one may boast before Him. Man uses only earthly wisdom – God uses spiritual wisdom.
1st Corinthians 1:30 “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.”

Praising Him,

LOSS:Let Our Savior Speak

(This is a blog I first published in December of 2015 after a dear neighbor passed away.. And while I was glad he was no longer suffering I had been thinking how hard it was for his brother and family to lose someone so close to Christmas. I opened a file from March of 2009 and found this one titled “Loss”. Blessings to all. njp)

LOSS – Let Our Savior Speak

A thought came to me today that so many of us are going through a trial or trials. Lost jobs, lost homes, lost relationships and losing loved ones through death. Not to mention what is going on in the world today.

The list is long and often we just don’t know where to start to recover or rebuild. We are at a loss as to what to say to our Lord.

The Lord can use these situations to get our attention turned to Him. Our LOSS becomes “Let Our Savior Speak.”
Just come before the Lord and before you start asking things of Him ask what you can do for Him. Ask what you are supposed to be learning from the situation. And then…be silent before the throne and let Him speak to you in that still and quiet voice.

There is strength in that silence when we are not speaking but listening. We need to be quiet so we can know the will of God. Remember that He knows what we need before we ask and He has something to say to each and every one of us. “Let Our Savior Speak”.

Come before the throne and say “Here I am Lord. How may I serve you? What can I learn in this situation that I might bring you Glory?”

Deuteronomy 3: 20 “Now choose life so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him.”

Psalm 29:4 “The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.”

What do you ask of me?

JANUARY 2, 2017 (Happy and blessed 2017 to all! Here is a repeat of last year’s new tears message – and it is a great way to start off a new year again! Originally written in 2008, it has a word for phase for all who will read this. Blessings, njp)


“What do you ask of me, my dear child?” said the Lord.

I want to be more like you Lord.
I want to love like you.
I want to forgive like you.
I want to pour out graciousness as you have poured out grace onto me.
I want the wisdom and knowledge that can only come from the Lord.
I want to be full of love and compassion.
I want to fill the sky with praise and thanks to my Lord and Savior.
I want to praise you more often than there are stars in the sky.
I want to love you with a fire that will never go out.

Lord, what you gave and are still giving can never be thanked with just the words we say.
You have made us whole.
You have made us holy for you.
You have made us to desire you.
You created us to praise you
On the day you call us to Heaven we will see the beauty of your face; the face of true love.

While here on earth we have a job to do; to show the love of the Lord.
To love one another as He has loved us.
To share the Lamb of God with others so they too may receive the gift of eternal life with God.
To sing His praises forever and ever.

This is what I ask of you, Lord; that others will see You in me and desire You in their lives.
That they too will understand that through your death on the cross our salvation has been paid in full.
Try me Lord and test me to see if I can lead others to you.
I know that with you in my life anything can be done.

Thank you for dying that I may live. May I reflect You in all I do.
