Presents and Prescence

(Richard wrote this in December of 2012 – his last Christmas here on earth. May Gd Bless you as you celebrate the birth of our Savior!) njh

We all love to give and receive presents! Right now our home is decorated inside and out – shopping and wrapping done, food being cooked for a party with dear friends, carols on the radio. Even in sunny (although today – rainy) California, the colors of the Christmas season are all around us.

Looking at the presents made me think of the word presence. Gifts we give and the Giver of Gifts! We need to take a deep breath and make sure we are not spending too much time with the gifts (presents) and not enough time with the giver – in God’s presence.

Presents we buy can make us forget about His presence and the fact that everything we have is from Him! And He desires to be in our presence! James 1: 17-18 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created

Often we sense His presence but in our very human way tell him; “later Lord – I am too busy right now”. We “put Him on the back burner” so to speak. He gave us His only begotten Son and we don’t give Him a few minutes of our time?

And when we give Him a few minutes to be in His presence, we are given gift after gift of understanding, peace, joy, love, the leading of the Lord in our everyday lives! He speaks to our minds and our hearts and we realize His Word is alive and sharper than a two edge sword; ready to arm us in our battles against any enemy!

So as you look at gifts this December – remember the Giver of Life!

When you see a present – remember to stay in His Presence!

God Bless you!

AUGUST 2, 2017 (Found these 2 short “munchies” this last weekend in a file that I had thought I had already thoroughly gone thru. Guess the Holy Spirit was saving them for today! From January 2012. Enjoy! njh)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING! In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones” Proverbs 3: 5-8

Keep following God’s Word and He will not let you yield to boasting (that is overweigt in the eyes of the Lord).

Life is a lot like golf. We have a goal (the pin and the cup) and the way there is filled with obstacles (hills, sand traps, water hazards). And when we get off course and the golf ball goes in the wrong direction we hear someone yell “fore”. It is hard to keep on the right path to achieve our goal… as Jesus intended for us to live!

But we have the best caddy in the world… the Holy Spirit! He hands us the right club to make the next shot (helps us choose to stay on the right path). He is the one that yells “fore” in our ear as a warning that we are straying.

Listen to your caddy – He will help you have the perfect swing as you aim for the goal!

JULY 8, 2017 (It has been over 100 degrees for a while now and time for light eating and lots of liquids! And maybe a “smoothie” or two to cool down! Thought this was a good one to re-run. From August of 2012. Enjoy and stay cool! njh)

MMMMM….. creamy smoothies! Easy to swallow, quick to make and they taste so good! There are varieties for breakfast or lunch or dinner! Just put the ingredients in a blender and hit the button! Even the tough food comes out smooth!

I think we all try to put our spiritual lives into a blender as well. We only want the smoothies – the easy to swallow scriptures, the passages that tickle our taste buds, the simple verses we can relate to quickly! We are like babies – only thinking about that next bottle of milk to fill us up for a little while.

Hebrews 5: 13-14 “Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching of righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil”.

God’s word is made up of all different textures and some we have to chew on a little longer. We must persevere in the word – be constant. We may not understand it all the 1st or the 10th time we read it. And then on that 11th reading, it turns into a “smoothie’! We grow stronger in our faith and closer to the Lord!

Put away that “spiritual blender” and get out your knife and fork. Get into the “constant use” pattern and you will feel yourself gaining spiritual strength as you feed yourself on the Word. Psalm 28: 7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped”.

In His Name,

The word’s for this week:

DIG Delight In God

JUNE 18, 2017 (Once again, this is a great tribute to all the wonderful dads out there! So blessed to be able to share it year after year! Enjoy, njh)

DAD (Do’s And Don’ts)

Why is it when DAD says no, we say yes?
When DAD says don’t grumble, we grumble.
When DAD says wait just a minute, we want it now!
When DAD says love one another (as in “be nice to your brother or sister”), we decide to wait and see if they will be nice to us first!

Every DAD reading this knows exactly what it feels like to be teaching their children and how many times they have to repeat the same things over and over.

Now, substitute the word GOD for DAD. Our Heavenly father goes through the same Do’s and Don’ts when He talks to us! And just like our own children, we have those times we just do not do what He tells us.

He loves us unconditionally and never tires of offering us all the blessings He wants us to have every day of our lives. We just need to LISTEN and OBEY.

So when you are in the midst of the DO’s and Don’ts you are trying to teach your children, here are some scriptures to remember.

Psalm 51: 10 Create in me a pure heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 37: 5-6 “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

Remember to share a favorite scripture with your children and let them know what it has meant in your life.

Have a Happy and Blessed Father’s Day!

JUNE 4, 2017 (It has been hot and sunny here this week with more to come! Thought it would be a good time to re-share this message! Blessings, njh)

I will admit to liking hot weather but this last week has really been a scorcher! It seems we just can’t get enough water to quench our thirst and replenish all we sweat out.

While I was thinking about this week’s message, that little nudge from God happened. So I am writing about quenching our Spiritual Thirst.

Psalm 42:1-2 “As the deer pants for the water, so my soul pants after you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the Living God”.

Revelation 21: 6-7 “He said to me: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son”.

John 7: 37-38 “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, If anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him”.

We just go to the living Word of God, draw from His well because it never runs dry!

Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overfloweth”.

As you are going into the freezer for more ice for your glass or grabbing that bottle of water out of the refrigerator remember that as we quench our physical thirst we also need to quench our Spiritual thirst! Hope I have given you some verses to get you started!

MAY 28, 2017 (This message has been run every year on Memorial Day – and hopefully for many, many more years! Frank and I will be working at the “Honor Our Heroes” day celebration our church holds each Memorial Day to honor all the people that work to keep us safe. All branches of service, VFW, and local agencies (Police, Cal-fire, CHP, etc) as well. Big Community event with rides and food held on the athletic field connected to the church. Remember to thank someone in uniform this special weekend! Blessings, njh)

Memorial Day. A day for all of us to take time & remember the brave men and women who fought and died so that we can live in freedom! Walk up to a man or woman in uniform and tell them thank you!

We fly the FLAG – we decorate our homes in red, white and blue, attend parades, listen to the wonderful bands playing patriotic marches, visit gravesites, gather with friends and families to picnic. A day filled with pride and emotion as we look at our beautiful FLAG and all it represents.

This Memorial Day, when you see the FLAG, think of the words: Faith Love And God!

Look at the stars on the flag and picture them as crosses. Jesus died to give us the freedom of salvation! The promise that we will be with Him in Heaven. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He paid the great price and bore all our sins, past, present and future and forgave them all.

As you proudly fly the FLAG of our wonderful country, remember that we need to also fly our spiritual FLAG. Wave it bravely – do not hide it. Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; whom shall I fear?”
Give honor and glory to God!

God Bless America!
