Soul Lifters

JANUARY 16, 2016 (In the turmoil the world always seems to be in, it is comforting to have scriptures to fall back on. Here from May of 2008 is a beautiful writing. Share with others and take comfort! Blessings, njp)

Various verses from Psalm 37: “Trust in the Lord and do good. Delight yourself also in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your ways to the Lord, trust in Him and He shall do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

“I have been young and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken.”

“The salvation of the righteousness comes from the Lord; He is their stronghold in time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them because they take refuge in Him.”

Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”

Psalm 34:4 “I sought the Lord and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears.”

Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him and He delivers them.”

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”

Proverbs 9:10-11 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For, by me, your days will be multiplied and years of life will be added to you.”

As you read the above scriptures think of this; all of them remind us to seek God first. The scripture that ties it all together is Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things shall be added unto you.”

Could we ask for anything more to lift up our souls than that? Praise God that we have a God who knows what we need before we even ask. And in His hands He has all the answers for our lives here on earth. Praise be to His holy name!

Yours in Christ,

JUNE 18, 2017 (Once again, this is a great tribute to all the wonderful dads out there! So blessed to be able to share it year after year! Enjoy, njh)

DAD (Do’s And Don’ts)

Why is it when DAD says no, we say yes?
When DAD says don’t grumble, we grumble.
When DAD says wait just a minute, we want it now!
When DAD says love one another (as in “be nice to your brother or sister”), we decide to wait and see if they will be nice to us first!

Every DAD reading this knows exactly what it feels like to be teaching their children and how many times they have to repeat the same things over and over.

Now, substitute the word GOD for DAD. Our Heavenly father goes through the same Do’s and Don’ts when He talks to us! And just like our own children, we have those times we just do not do what He tells us.

He loves us unconditionally and never tires of offering us all the blessings He wants us to have every day of our lives. We just need to LISTEN and OBEY.

So when you are in the midst of the DO’s and Don’ts you are trying to teach your children, here are some scriptures to remember.

Psalm 51: 10 Create in me a pure heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 37: 5-6 “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

Remember to share a favorite scripture with your children and let them know what it has meant in your life.

Have a Happy and Blessed Father’s Day!

JUNE 4, 2017 (It has been hot and sunny here this week with more to come! Thought it would be a good time to re-share this message! Blessings, njh)

I will admit to liking hot weather but this last week has really been a scorcher! It seems we just can’t get enough water to quench our thirst and replenish all we sweat out.

While I was thinking about this week’s message, that little nudge from God happened. So I am writing about quenching our Spiritual Thirst.

Psalm 42:1-2 “As the deer pants for the water, so my soul pants after you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the Living God”.

Revelation 21: 6-7 “He said to me: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son”.

John 7: 37-38 “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, If anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him”.

We just go to the living Word of God, draw from His well because it never runs dry!

Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overfloweth”.

As you are going into the freezer for more ice for your glass or grabbing that bottle of water out of the refrigerator remember that as we quench our physical thirst we also need to quench our Spiritual thirst! Hope I have given you some verses to get you started!
In His Name,

MAY 28, 2017 (This message has been run every year on Memorial Day – and hopefully for many, many more years! Frank and I will be working at the “Honor Our Heroes” day celebration our church holds each Memorial Day to honor all the people that work to keep us safe. All branches of service, VFW, and local agencies (Police, Cal-fire, CHP, etc) as well. Big Community event with rides and food held on the athletic field connected to the church. Remember to thank someone in uniform this special weekend! Blessings, njh)

Memorial Day. A day for all of us to take time & remember the brave men and women who fought and died so that we can live in freedom! Walk up to a man or woman in uniform and tell them thank you!

We fly the FLAG – we decorate our homes in red, white and blue, attend parades, listen to the wonderful bands playing patriotic marches, visit gravesites, gather with friends and families to picnic. A day filled with pride and emotion as we look at our beautiful FLAG and all it represents.

This Memorial Day, when you see the FLAG, think of the words: Faith Love And God!

Look at the stars on the flag and picture them as crosses. Jesus died to give us the freedom of salvation! The promise that we will be with Him in Heaven. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He paid the great price and bore all our sins, past, present and future and forgave them all.

As you proudly fly the FLAG of our wonderful country, remember that we need to also fly our spiritual FLAG. Wave it bravely – do not hide it. Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; whom shall I fear?”
Give honor and glory to God!

God Bless America!

Blessed are you in raising your children by His written Words.

APRIL 8, 2017 (I was in the grocery store this morning and made sure I checked the expiration date on some packaged items. This afternoon, when looking for a blog to post this one just popped up! Published in November of 2012. Blessings njp)

When we shop we look at the expiration dates on the food we buy. On the coupons we cut out. On the medicines we take. On the duration of a sale that is going on. We look for the words, “Use by_______” or Void after________.” We want to make sure we have not passed that expiration date.

Isn’t it wonderful that the spiritual labels on and in God’s Word (the Bible) have NO EXPIRATION DATE!

His perfect love for us does not spoil, lose its flavor, or change in any way! God’s words are perfect for us from the moment we are born until we join Him in Heaven!

In this world, we sometimes use the word forever lightly – without really thinking about what forever truly means – without end! The concordance in my Bible has 68 references to the word forever! The psalms are full of these verses!

Check out: Psalm 9:7 Psalm 37:28 Psalm 72:19 Psalm 86:12 Psalm 118:1 Psalm 126:1 and especially Psalm 136 where each of the 26 verses has the refrain, “His love endures forever”!

Thankful for His enduring love!

APRIL 2, 2017 (So sorry that I have been remiss in sharing these blogs but life has been hectic with moving and getting settled in a new city and a new home. I also am in a cast on my right foot – 2 fractures – but they are healing and the sun is shining and the birds are singing and the lilacs are blooming and sure hope the rain is over for a while. God seems to have chosen to end most of our 5 year drought in one season! That all being said, I came across this wonderful writing from March of 1995. Richard titled it “Did I Wrestle With An Angel?” – I believe referring to what kept him up in the middle of the night listening to what God was telling him. It is a powerful message. Blessings to all, njp)

I woke up about 3 AM this morning and thoughts of Jesus entered my mind. Scriptures kept me awake and I kept repeating His sacred words over and over again. I then read a book I had started to read earlier on Saturday evening. It is a book on relying on the leading of the Holy Spirit by E.M.Bounds.

While reading, I thanked the Lord for all my blessings. I asked the Holy Spirit to take the reins of my life more sincerely than I had ever asked before. I asked that my words be anointed by the Holy Spirit. I want to be an effective person for the Lord and to help further the Kingdom of God.

I prayed that I would be Spirit led and Spirit fed on the Word of God. I asked the Lord to always be reminded that in all I do and say, He is as close to me as my elbows are to my arms. Lord, whenever I am ready to speak, let me pause first and then ask you, “What shall I say next? May I always speak in sincerity. Lord, give me a trained ear that I may close it to the world and it’s leadings and instead let me hear your ever beckoning Word.

You said I should ask of you but I usually make a mess of asking. With the Holy Spirit guiding me I will ask according to your will and that will not be denied.

Set me on fire for you, O Lord. Let me be a torch bearer for you! Lord, help me to be your helper.

In your Son Jesus name I ask these things. Thank you Lord.

Non-skid Souls

MARCH 5, 2017 (Slight snow fell as we headed up the hill to church this morning – it was only a little sleet at the house. But as I was carefully walking on the snow and trying not to slip I remembered this story and thought it fitting for today! Blessings, njp)

Maybe it was water on a tile floor, or a rain slicked sidewalk or winter’s icy steps – we all have felt that stomach turning sensation of skidding and slipping! Reaching out to anything we can grab onto so we don’t fall down. And as it is happening we wish we were wearing shoes that had non-skid soles!

What a difference those non-skid soles would make in the way we walk on a slippery surface!

It’s the same with our spiritual life – our walk with the Lord. Once we have put ourselves in His hands, when we trust in Him, we join the ranks of non-skid souls! We acquire traction and know where we are headed!
Psalm 66:9 “He has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping”.

Psalm 121:3 “He will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber”.

So if you are tired of the slipping and sliding that you are doing in your life, reach out for the steadfast hand that God is extending to you! Psalm 37: 23-24 “If the Lord delights in a man’s way, He makes his step firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.

In His Name,

The word’s for this week:
RAP Rejoice And Pray
LOYAL Leaning On You Almighty Lord
